They connect by first being relevant and relatable, recognising and acknowledging the other persons value, then in triggering what they aspire to, they can ultimately encouraging what motivates them to believe in themselves and all they can achieve.

This becomes easy to do when you have studied and perfected how you use and control language influentially in both listening and speaking. This is what the The Advanced Linguistic Influencing And Persuading Skills Training is all about.

I like you, in the past have had my fair share of frustrations centred around making myself understood and on occasion understanding. Whether that was in my relationships or in my past career in sales and management.

Are You Right Or Are You Winning!

When I was much younger I very much suffered from deciding all to early in situations that “I was right” and then that weird thing happens where your ears seem to stop working completely. I then set about in an overly bullish and usually forceful way (though didn’t recognise it at the time) attempting to prove exactly how much I was right.

You know the old, “say it again but say it louder” technique delivered in an emotional engaged die to be right sort of a way.

Surprise, surprise it didn’t often work particularly well, or with any sort of predictable regularity. Even the times where I thought it had worked and my communication had been clearly received, the actions of the other person then over a period of time informed me otherwise.

There are several forms of communication, but most fall into 2 main types. Either force or influence.

Force can seem very effective, but believe me, it will always be a short term win. Here are just 5 main types of force, you may recognise having used a few of them and or possibly felt the pressure of them being applied to you.

Type 1: We have all experienced where someone has some form of authority over you. Where a perceived “boss” (in all of their forms) literally tells you on a daily basis exactly what you have to do, when you have to do it and sometimes even how you have to do it. Notice here, there is usually very little “why”.

Type 2: Is those short lived highly contextualised power over interactions. The jobs worths of the world, or an I know something you don’t know situation. Where someone can milk their tiny moment of power and make you jump through unnecessary hoops for nothing more than their own personal rather small minded satisfaction.

Type 3: Is a biggie and may not be immediately recognised as force. The dreaded emotional blackmail. If you have ever heard yourself mutter “anything for a quiet life” or you’ve had someone help you to feel an overwhelming sense of guilt! Then there is a good chance that you have been forced to temper or change your decisions through emotional pressure applied by another.

Bullying Influencing and persuading skills trainingType 4: A person driven by a “die to be right” mentality. Maybe their confidence needs it, maybe they are after some form of secondary gain, or have a need for recognition. These are the people that are like a dog with a bone, they will ware you down until you agree. Though you’ll not have actually agreed, you will have simply given up! A bit like having to deal with a toddler!

Type 5: Is your out and out straight forward everyday, common or garden Bully. Those that constantly look for opportunities to prey on the weaknesses of others to hide their own fears, inabilities and inadequacies. Usually using either their superior physical strength, intelligence and mental agility, cutting cruelty or cunning manipulation.

Force can never truly work long term because it constantly needs topping up. The pressure has to be applied on an ongoing basis. The minute it eases off, free will and free think will quickly once more blossom. Allowing the person to focus their attention on their own unique wants, needs and desires.

Force Is Win/Loose Influence Is Win/Win

Force is a win / loose exchange and interaction. Influence on the other hand is a win / win exchange and interaction. And it is  significantly more powerful in the short and long term, so only really needs to comes in one main type.

Influence is a positive collaboration driven by aligned intent, genuine interest, integrity and the skilful use of language to create inception within the mind of the other person.

Force is telling people what they have to do! Influence is getting them to a place where they tell you what they’re going to do! Which when done well, will just happen to be exactly what you would like them to do.
